Characteristics of habitat conditions
The meteorological conditions in January and February of 2014 were not characterized by abnormal deviations. There was a snow “crust” formation at the end of March and in the beginning of April due to huge day and night temperature swings. This has adversely affected the survival of wild ungulate animals. The presence, though insignificant, of the seeds of cedar and berries did not cause a mass migration of squirrels, sables or bears.
In general, the feed situation for typical taiga species of game animals (squirrel, sable, bear) in 2014 was evaluated as unsatisfactory.
The autumn and winter period of 2014 (November-December) was with an unusual lack of snowfall and was characterized by warm weather. Thaws were recorded even in December. The lack of snow cover had a negative impact on the success of fur-bearing animal hunting in some areas of the region.
