Travel the Circum-Baikal Railway all year round
Irkutsk guests and residents are increasingly interested in travelling by Baikalskaya PPK (local passenger company) commuter train. Passengers can use a ‘single ticket’ to travel by commuter train, comfortable ship and bus. In winter, an ACV (air-cushion vehicle) is used to deliver passengers on the ice of Lake Baikal from Listvyanka to the Circum-Baikal Railway.
During the trip, passengers will find a fascinating program with long stops and walks around the unique architectural landmark. Inside the train, a panoramic view is displayed online from outside cameras. One train carriage features a gallery with unique archive photographs depicting the construction timeline of the Circum-Baikal Railway.
There are many foreign citizens coming as tourists, so all the inscriptions in the train carriage are duplicated in English and Chinese.
This year, it was decided to continue these trips in November and December based on the feedback from travel agencies. Thus, this 2019 tourist season can go down in history as the first one to last an entire year.

In 2024, the festival of ice sculptures on Lake Baikal is scheduled for the period from February 15 to 28. During these two weeks, the lake shore will turn into a real open-air museum, where everyone will be able to enjoy sculptural masterpieces created from ice.
The portal has been created for FSBI ”Informational and Analytical Center for Development of Water Bodies and Associated Properties” under the special program “Protection of Lake Baikal and Socio-Economic Development of the Baikal Natural Preserve for 2012-2020.”
