The court canceled the sale of a plot for a tourist base on the shore of Lake Baikal in a protected area

The Arbitration Court in the Irkutsk Region declared illegal the privatization of a 15,000 sq. M site. m on the shore of Lake Baikal. Earlier, the administration of the Shara-Togot municipality sold it to an entrepreneur who planned to build a tourist base there, although the site is located in a conservation area, the regional prosecutor's office reported on the website.

"The Prosecutor's Office of the Irkutsk Region in a judicial proceeding recognized the privatization of a land plot within the boundaries of the Central Ecological Zone of the Baikal Natural Territory as illegal. It has been established that the administration of the Shara-Togot Municipal Formation granted one of the entrepreneurs under a sale and purchase agreement a land plot with a total area of 15 thousand sq. M. to accommodate a tourist base on the shores of Lake Baikal, "the message says.

The privatization of land within the boundaries of the World Natural Heritage site is expressly prohibited by law, the statement says. The central ecological zone of the Baikal natural territory includes Lake Baikal, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, its water protection zone and specially protected natural areas.
