More than 9.6 million rubles were allocated by Rosvodresurs to restore the capacity of the Baikal tributary - the mountain river Solzan. By the end of the year, four kilometers of the riverbed will have to be cleared, ridding the estuary area of 1.8 thousand cubic meters of wood junk. The financing will reduce the risks of the next floods and eliminate the consequences of the July 2023 flood.

Solzan is a mountain river with a length of 34.5 kilometers, it begins in the northern part of the Khamar–Daban ridge and flows into Lake Baikal in the Baikal region with a population of 12.5 thousand people. The largest volume of wood debris, pebbles and boulders that obstruct the flow traditionally accumulates in the estuary.

"During floods, 10.7 hectares of the territory where residential buildings, infrastructure facilities, communications, engineering structures are located may be under the threat of flooding. Flood clearance will prevent damage 70 times higher than the amount of funding from the federal budget. The effectiveness of such measures is confirmed by examples from practice: the previously cleared channels of neighboring rivers – Bolshaya and Malaya Osinovka, missed the summer flood without difficulty," said Sergey Kapustin, head of the Yenisei BVU Rosvodresursov.

After the flood that occurred in the Slyudyansky district in July 2023, some of the wood debris was carried out into the waters of Lake Baikal. A thousand cubic meters of sediment occupied an area of 50 hectares. At the confluence of the Solzan into the lake, the site was cleared by the Vostsibregionvodkhoz branch of the Centerregionvodkhoz of Rosvodresurs. To eliminate the consequences, specialists used all available equipment: special cranes, dump trucks and a mini-loader. The mouth of the Kharlakhta River continues to be rid of fragments of floating wood: at the beginning of October, re-cleaning on 10 hectares was agreed.
