850 cubic meters of wood from the Baikal water area were collected by specialists of the Vostsibregionvodkhoz branch of the Centerregionvodkhoz of Rosvodresurs. The event is held under the national project "Ecology". After intense rains in July of this year, the banks were littered with trees – they were brought from the mountains by southern rivers. The volume of sediment is estimated at 1000 cubic meters. For efficient and fast cleaning, a hydraulic manipulator, KAMAZ trucks with special cranes, dump trucks and a mini-loader were used.

"The clearing started on the third day. It took a very short time for the transfer of special vehicles to the emergency area. At work in the area of Baikalsk and Utulik, we used all the equipment available in the branch. We worked overtime, seven days a week. Some sites had to be returned twice or three times, as the wood reappeared. At the same time, we tried not to interfere with vacationers on the shore – the main stage of clearing fell at the height of the tourist season," said Yuri Veldyaev, acting director of Vostsibregionvodkhoz.

The work is taking place on a plot of almost 50 hectares. The waste mostly accumulated in the mouths of the Solzan and Kharlakhta rivers. For today, most of the wood junk has already been collected, it will take another couple of weeks to completely clear it. After that, specialists will focus on the site in the Murino district of the Irkutsk region, as well as Vydrino and Babushkin in the Republic of Buryatia.

The branch's plan for 2023 includes clearing 245 hectares of Lake Baikal, Irkutsk and Bratsk reservoirs from wood debris and garbage. Rosvodresursy allocated 22.8 million rubles for these purposes. According to preliminary estimates, due to the emergency situation, the volume of collected wood will exceed the planned one by almost two times. It is planned to complete the work on all sections by the end of October.
