In the Trans-Baikal Territory, two landfills were liquidated in the city of Borzya under the federal project "Clean Country" of the national project "Ecology".

"Both landfills were located in the city near residential buildings and a school. Ash and slag waste and various household garbage were brought to the facilities without authorization, which caused fires," said Murad Kerimov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia.

The area of the first landfill was 10.9 hectares. Work began in March 2022. More than 280 thousand cubic meters of waste have been eliminated, the method of elimination is the removal of waste to the existing MSW landfill.

130 thousand cubic meters of garbage accumulated at the second landfill on an area of 5.9 hectares. Reclamation has been carried out since November 2022. A degassing system was carried out at the facility, ecomats were laid, grass was sown. This week, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia reviewed the act of completed works.

As a result of the implementation of the projects, positive conclusions were received
from the branch of FSBI "TSLATI for SFD" on the compliance of the studied samples of groundwater, atmospheric air and soil with the current sanitary standards and on the absence of excess concentrations of pollutants.

The total cost of the liquidation of two landfills is 748 million rubles, of which 685 million rubles from the federal budget. Positive changes in the environmental situation will affect 29 thousand people.

"Landfills in Transbaikalia have joined the list of objects liquidated in 2023. This summer, three more landfills were removed: in the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania, the largest object of the "Clean Country" – Vladikavkaz landfill was recultivated, landfills in Mordovia and the Lipetsk region were also eliminated," Murad Kerimov said.
